Why and What?

Greetings!  We are Marco, Francesca, Ananias and Anais (Ana-ees) Barbee.  When we, Marco and Francesca, married in 2008 we both knew we were called to international ministry but we weren’t quite sure how that would happen. At the time Francesca was already working in rural parts of Ecuador with a fair trade organization that she co- founded in 2003.  Marco sensed the call but never had been out of the States.  On our first trip together to Ecuador in 2009, the call became more tangible.  While enjoying cafecito (coffee) with one of the artisans Francesca partners with, the artisan began to ask questions about Marco.  Francesca described that Marco was a mental health therapist.  Suddenly the artisan opened up to Marco, through Francesca’s translation, about very personal issues.  Through this exchange we could visualize how God would use our different gifts together in mission.  Since then we have been praying, planning and waiting for the opportunity to serve the Lord by responding to people’s physical needs, sharing the gospel and equipping them to thrive in their faith walk.

We are delighted to now be working with SIM, an interdenominational multicultural sending mission agency with 1800 missionaries from over 60 countries.  SIM’s focus is “Respond to need, Proclaim the gospel, Equip the Church.”  In Loja, Ecuador we will join the SIM team by serving with Impacto Mundial, the sending office for Ecuadorians.  Together we will help re-launch a coffee export business/ministry, serving local farmers throughout the region while generating much-needed funds for the local sending office and later Ecuadorian missionaries around the globe.   We look forward to learning from family farmers as we partner with them and seeing the ministry we work in have a global impact.
